Marion hospital closes
After forty-five years of operation the Marion hospital has officially closed.
Patients were moved to the new St. Luke hospital and equipment which could be used there was taken out Monday afternoon. Some of the hospital beds and a few other pieces of equipment which had been purchased by the Legion Auxiliary will be placed where they can be used by anyone in the county. Some things not needed at St. Luke will be removed to Cedar Rest home.
Ora Newcomer a long time patient of the Marion hospital was taken to Cedar Rest home Sunday.
Mrs. Laura Bennington, Peabody, who had been a patient for a week, Mrs. Lloyd Wiseman and baby son, Steven Lloyd, born Oct. 18, Mrs. Max Loveless and baby daughter, born Oct 16 and Mrs. Max Carr and infant son born the 15th of the month were all removed to St. Luke Monday.
Mrs. Mae Soyez and assistants are completing the closing of the hospital and preparing their final report to the hospital board.
Those who have served for the past few years in managing the hospital are Dr. C.R. Magee, president; Gail Merrill, secretary; August Schoneman, treasurer; and Nodie Baker, Dr. R.R. Melton, and David Wheeler.
