Marion Manor residents host layette shower

Sometimes we've been so busy, it's hard to decide just where to begin. Last week I forgot to tell everyone about the layette shower. The residents held the shower on June 26 for Heather. Her baby is due in July, and I think we are all as excited as Heather. We made her promise to bring the baby in as soon as they are up to a visit.
Staff also informed me the church service by the Strassburg Baptist church was wonderful. Many volunteers from the church came and put on a great service for the residents, complete with a bell ringer.
We baked ginger crinkles Tuesday. They were a soft gingersnap cookie. We had them for refreshments at our postal party held after Bible study. The postal party was to celebrate national postal workers day. We played a game where the residents took turns "shaking" boxes and "feeling" envelopes to see if they could guess the contents inside. Some of the results were quite interesting, especially when we opened the envelope full of crackers to find only crumbs remained.
We had a half party Wednesday to celebrate the fact that the year is half over. We played a quiz game with residents guessing the answers to half phrases.
A small group went to the library Thursday to check out some books. When we returned Ralph Noriega was here to entertain us. He played several of the residents' favorite songs, along with many more. He entertained up until supper time.
The Fourth found a large group of residents celebrating in the front living and dining rooms. We had cake, lemonade, and strawberries dipped in white chocolate and rolled in blue sugar to make them red, white, and blue. Staff passed out "firecracker" pins made by some of the staffs' children. After cake was served, we shot off "fireworks." Everyone had a real good time! Some of the staff dressed in red, white, and blue for the occasion. Residents always seem to enjoy the holidays more when staff participates by wearing festive clothing.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything. Next week promises to be another busy week with many more celebrations planned.
