Marion Manufacturing is business of the year

Marion Manufacturing, Inc. was chosen as the 2006 Outstanding Business of the Year.

The announcement was made Monday evening at the Marion City Council meeting.

One of 14 nominees for the recognition, the fabricating business has been a part of the Marion community since 1979, starting in a downtown building as a custom machining, and tool and die design and fabrication business.

In the 1980s, the expanding business moved to its current location at 201 S. Coble Street, Marion.

Equipment and services now offered include a single, maintenance repair part to complex computer-controlled automation and roll forming equipment.

The business was chosen because "it had generated 11 new jobs in the past year, added considerable capital to the local economy, and has added a prestigious client base which adds to the local economy when these clients visit on a regular basis and stay up to a week. The company also has exhibited support of local schools, community activities, non-profit organizations, and has made strides in improving its facility and grounds."

The company was chosen by Marion Economic Development Advisory Board which is comprised of local business owners and residents.
