Marion Marble girls trounce Peabody
The nine- and 10-year-old girls' team of Marion Marble & Granite defeated Peabody, 13-3.
Rookie pitchers Danae Bina and Chelsea Voth had solid performances. Bina struck out three girls in two innings and Voth struck out four girls in two innings of play.
JayDee Schafers and Elizabeth Goentzel were strong catchers for the team.
In the first inning of play, Bina hit a double, Erin Meierhoff and Mattie Hiebert each had singles to bring the score to 3-0.
Voth, Meierhoff, Hiebert, Schafers, and Balee Shiplet each added runs in the second inning, giving Marion eight runs, total.
Goentzel, Rebecca Williams, Bina, Meierhoff, and Hiebert added runs in the third inning, clinching the victory with a 13-3 score.
"All the girls did well fielding and batting," said coach Kathy Meierhoff. "This was the first game, so I know we will improve on batting and fielding."
