Marion Middle School wins invitational

The Marion Middle School track team hosted a five-team track meet Tuesday and won the event. The meet included Council Grove, St. Mark's, Prairie Heights, and Herington.

The boys' eighth-grade team also won their division scoring 101 points in the process.

Ben Leppke turned a noteworthy afternoon as well. Leppke won the long jump and the trip jump, setting a new school record in the triple jump with a leap of 38'11 1/2." He also won the 100-meter dash.

The boys' 4x100-meter relay team took home first-place honors. The team consisted of Travis Hett, Jason Hett, Kyle Hett, and Luke Bowers.

Jason took home first-place honors in the 1600-meter, while Bowers added a first-place finish in the 800-meter dash.

The seventh-grade boys won their division scoring 96 points.

Austin Hager, Justin Jacobson, Keith Jones, and Calvin Jeffrey, took home a first-place victory in the 4x200-meter relay event.

Hager also finished first in the high jump, while Jacobson won the pole vault.

The eighth-grade girls placed first in their division scoring 92 points as a team.

Every girl on the eighth-grade squad scored in the Marion effort.

Tedra Eis won the girls' triple jump, while Naomi Coe won the girls' 1600-meter run.

The seventh-grade girls finished third overall with 59 points.

Kristen Waner grabbed a first-place finish in the pole vault, while Tacy Taylor finished first in the 800-meter run.

Despite finishing third in the shot put, Kimber Hardey broke the school record with a heave of 27'8."
