Several complaints involving animals, including a dead horse, took the front burner for Marion police officers during the past week.
Aug. 11 — An officer investigated a report of an intoxicated driver. The driver was not under the influence, but was given a verbal warning for having a defective turn signal.
An officer met with the state fire marshal. A report of a dead horse, possibly struck by lightning on Aug.10, in the area of Commercial and Forest streets, was investigated. The officer tried to contact the horse's owner, but was not able to do so. The animal was removed. An officer gave a verbal warning about a J-turn and for improper use of hazard signals.
Aug. 12 — A warning was issued for improper parking on Main Street. An officer registered a bicycle for a citizen. People were met with in regard to a driving complaint. An officer met with citizens about what they can do to diminish the nuisance of wild animals in their yards. The owner of a dog was met with in regard to a complaint.
Aug. 13 — A report of burglary and theft from a vehicle was taken. A junk ordinance complaint was investigated.
Thursday — An officer investigated a complaint that someone was parked in a handicapped parking area. Officers checked on two door-to-door salesmen in town. Another officer was in district court for a pre-trial conference.
Friday — A warning for speeding was issued. Warnings were issued for seat-belt violations involving children. An officer investigated a disorderly person who refused to leave a residence. The person later was seen by the officer, driving, and was arrested for DUI.
Warnings were issued for a defective taillight, defective headlight, and no bicycle light. A possible criminal damage to property complaint in the 400 block of Cedar was investigated. Officers could find no one in the area and found no damage. Warnings were issued for a defective headlight and an inoperable taillight.
Saturday — An officer killed a skunk caught in a "live" trap in the 200 block of South Fourth. An officer assisted an ambulance crew in the 500 block of Walnut. A dog running at large in the area of Santa Fe and First streets was picked up. A warning was issued for a defective taillight.
Sunday — An officer was called to assist with a JetSki accident at Marion Reservoir. A child custody dispute was investigated at 201 South Cedar. A stray dog was picked up the area of Santa Fe and First streets. A domestic dispute in the 400 block of South Fourth was investigated. Both people were gone when officers arrived. Charges are pending. A warning was issued for a defective taillight.
Police Chief Michel Soyez reported that officers drove 659 miles during the week. They issued 13 warning citations, one citation, and made one arrest.
