Marion power lifters finish fourth and eighth

The Marion High School power lifters competed at the Class 3A state power lifting championship in Marion Saturday. The boys squad nabbed a fourth-place finish out of 21 teams that competed, while the girls' team finished eighth.

The boys racked up 29 total points behind the following place-holders:

In the 114 weight class: Riley Ross finished fourth and tallied 365 total pounds; In the 123-pound category, John Barr III nabbed third place with 355 total pounds; Neil Waner and Tyler Stubenhofer, both in the 172-pound division, finished fifth and sixth respectively with 745 and 690 total pounds; In the 198-pound category, Steven Boone finished fourth with 870 pounds; while Jim Shipman and Dale Vogel, both in the 242-pound division, finished second and fourth with 895 and 745 pounds respectively.

The girls tallied nine total points during competition.

Senior Emmy Bowers and junior Leann Thomas led the way for the Warrior women.

Bowers finished second in the 165-pound division with 535 pounds total, while Thomas finished sixth in the power-division with 495 total pounds.
