Marion sends six wrestlers to state
Arnhold, Ewert, Trapp and Boone place at regional
Four Marion High School wrestlers won the right to compete Saturday at state in Hays.
The four placed in regional competition last Friday and Saturday at Chase County.
Chelsea Arnhold, Zac Ewert, Jordan Trapp, and Steven Boone each won a state berth by placing within the top four in regional.
As a team, the Warriors placed fifth overall.
"We wrestled relatively well this weekend, although we didn't have a very good semifinal round," said Marion coach Chad Adkins. "We had several kids run into some very tough competition."
Arnhold, a sophomore, placed fourth in the tournament in the 103-pound competition. Ewert, a senior, placed third in the 130-pound weight division. Trapp, a junior, placed third in the 140-pound group, and Boone, a sophomore, placed third in the 171-pound weight class.
Both Arnhold and Boone are state returnees. Both competed at state last year.
The 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament begins at 9 a.m. Friday at Gross Memorial Coliseum at Fort Hays State University. Wrestling action continues on into Saturday.
