Marion students win in VFW contest
Marion students Emily Svoboda and Misti Richmond are winners in the recent Veterans of Wars Auxiliary competition.
The students and their families were guests at the spring convention Voice of Democracy banquet held April 13 at Emporia.
Emily Svoboda is a Marion Middle School student who entered the Patriot Pen contest, winning first in the local competition and second in District IV. She received a savings bond for both of her prizes.
Misti Richmond of Marion High School entered the Voice of Democracy contest. This year's title was Freedom's Obligation. She took first in the local contest and third in District IV.
The girls enjoyed their visit with war veterans. It was an extra special honor they said, during the time the Iraq War is in progress.
Donna Kreutziger organizes the event for the local VFW Auxiliary.
