Marion takes third at Centre Invitational
Shipman named
to all-tourney team
Marion High School volleyball team took third place Saturday at the Centre invitational tournament.
The team defeated Herington in two games of 25-14 and 25-18 in the first match. They then were defeated by Burrton in two games, 21-25 and 11-25.
The final match, with Centre, was won in three games, with scores of 25-20, 19-25, and 15-10.
In the semi-finals, Hope defeated Marion in three games with scores of 17-25, 25-22, and 15-9.
That put Marion in the consolation bracket, where they avenged their earlier loss to Burrton by defeating them in two games and taking third place.
The championship game was won by Metro Academy of Shawnee Mission, which defeated Hope in three games.
Metro Academy filled in for Hillsboro after the team dropped out of the tournament.
Brandi Shipman, a Marion senior, was named to the all-tourney team.
