Marion wrestlers a little rusty after break
Grapplers lose to Haven, and Minneapolis in dual
Returning to the floor after Christmas break, the Marion High School wrestlers were a little rusty.
During a dual Thursday, the team lost contests to Haven, 30-33, and to Minneapolis 21-48.
"The kids had 3 1/2 weeks off with the Christmas break where they weren't wrestling. But we'll learn from it and go on," said MHS head coach Chad Adkins. "We'll be getting back into the mode of matches. They all know they're capable.
"We won some matches and lost some matches," he added. "We need to start winning all of the close matches."
One problem the team has is its numbers are small, especially when compared to a team like Minneapolis.
"They have 26 out for wrestling, while we only have 13," Adkins said. "So they have more people to work with."
Marion also had several weight classes open, which immediately counts as a loss.
"The kids wrestled hard," Adkins said. "We just have to fix a lot of little mistakes."
