Mars exploration is an opportunity
I'm really torn. There are so many things to write about. There is the football player who upset K-State's apple cart, the landing of the space probe "Spirit" on the planet Mars, cold weather, mad cows, Iraq atrocities, overcrowded prisons, Michael Jackson, the alligator guy who exposed his small child to danger, extreme makeovers, bachelors and bachelorettes, and so many words that could replace the word "sad." Oh my, what a choice!
First I think I'll tell this cute little story. I had a letter from Charlene Youk Stenzel. She wrote that when she was a little girl, Clara Duncan, who lived next door, took her to the Presbyterian church for the children's Christmas program. There was a Santa there who gave out treats. Her church always gave treats, but no Santa there. She asked Clara about the difference and Clara told her that Santa was a Presbyterian. This reply satisfied her curiosity. In later years she thought that that Santa probably was a Presbyterian.
I really am interested in the exploration of Mars. Just amazing that a planet so far away could be the target of a space probe called "Spirit." For all the money it is costing I hope the scientists will discover something wonderful that will help mankind on down the road. Something we never dreamed of. As President Bush says, "It's an opportunity." That's his motto now. Maybe we need to look at things that way, too!
