Mary Anna Scharenberg

Mary Anna Scharenberg, 85, of Mapleton, died June 13, 2005, at Prescott Country View Nursing Home, Prescott.

Born Sept. 28, 1919, at McPherson, she was the daughter of David and Mary (Northup) Goertz.

On June 15, 1941, she married Orville Scharenberg at Marion.

In 1959, the couple moved to a farm near Mapleton. They owned and operated a laundry and dry cleaning business in Mapleton for many years.

She was a member of Xenia Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Peterson; brother, Cyrus Goertz; a granddaughter and great-grandson.

Survivors include her husband, Orville of Mapleton; three sons, David and Mark Scharenberg, both of Mapleton and Fred Scharenberg of Raytown, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Lalman of Mapleton and Leta Hale of Hollister, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Xenia Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Nelson and Pastor Robert Presswood officiating.

Burial was in Mapleton Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
