Mary Etta Malmgren
Mary Etta Malmgren, 81, formerly of Florence, died May 5, 2002, at Overland Park.
The daughter of Evert and Pearl (Frew) Holsapple, she was born Feb. 17, 1911, near Winona.
She graduated from Ft. Hays State College and taught school around Winona for 13 years.
She married Leslie J. Malmgren on March 8, 1941, in Sharon Springs. The couple had four children, Richard, Jean Diana, Jerry, and Mary Lou.
She was a member of Florence United Methodist Church, Florence UMW, and WCTU. She held office in many of these organizations. She was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred and Frank Holsapple; one sister, Katherine Holsapple; one daughter, Jean Diana; and two grandsons, Morgan Johnson and Troy Malmgren.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie of Overland Park; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Jane Malmgren of Des Moines, Wash., and Jerry and Edna Malmgren of Overland Park; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mike Johnson of Mound City; two sisters, Dorothy Moulden of Winona and Marcella Overholt of Brighton, Colo.; two brothers, Harry Holsapple of Sharon Springs and Floyd Holsapple of Aurora, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Holsapple of Shawnee Mission; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Florence United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the church and Florence Ambulance Service.
