Mary Gootee
Mary Alverta Gootee, 77, Topeka, died Aug. 31, 2003, at Midland Hospice House.
She was a registered nurse for St. Joseph Hospital in Denver before moving to Topeka in 1950.
Mary was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Denver, the daughter of John and Minerva Evans Cherry.
She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a docent for the Treasurer's of the Czar, and volunteered at MPHM School.
She was married to Joseph Edward Gootee, M.D., on Nov. 12, 1949, in Denver. He died Nov. 15, 1983, as did her daughter, Patricia M. Gootee Schafers, June 10, 2000.
Survivors include one daughter Kathleen Gootee; four grandchildren, Mary, Joseph, John, and Ben Gootee Schafers; and son-in-law Dennis Schafers.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the grandchildren's education fund.
