Mary Stika

Mary Agnes Stika, 88, died Dec. 24, 2002, at Friendly Acres, Newton.

Born Sept. 9, 1914, at Pilsen, she was the daughter of Rudolph and Fannie (Stika) Klenda. She was raised in the Pilsen community and brought up in the Catholic faith. She attended high school at Lincolnville and graduated from there in 1932.

She taught country school for four years.

On Oct. 11, 1937, she married Charles L. Stika at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen. They made their home near Pilsen where he farmed and she was a homemaker and farm wife. They were married 57 years. He died April 7, 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Richard of Lakewood, Colo., and Donald of Lincolnville; two daughters, Phyllis Hein of Stilwell, and Marlys Kretchmar of Wichita; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The rosary was recited at 5 p.m. Dec. 29 at Holy Family Parish Church, Pilsen. A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Dec. 30 at the church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials were established with the Pilsen Catholic church or Central Homecare and Hospice.
