Maudie Vinduska

Maudie Marie Vinduska, 80, died Aug. 29, 2002, at St. Luke Hospital.

The daughter of Hugo and Ollie (Longhofer) Weishaar, she was born March 4, 1922, at Elmo.

After graduating from Hope High School in 1940, she graduated from Halstead School of Nursing in 1943.

She married James Vinduska on Nov. 28, 1945, at Elmo. He died March 31, 1999. The couple had four children, two sons and two daughters.

Former Marion County Health Nurse, she also was a well-known nurse for many years at St. Luke Hospital. She spent her life serving others with her skill and compassion as a nurse.

From 1948 until 1970 she was a nurse at the hospital in Herington. The remainder of her career, from 1970 until her retirement in 1997, she was on the nursing staff of St. Luke Hospital.

"Maudie," as she was affectionately known by a wide circle of friends, was active in many organizations. She was a member of the altar society, VFW Auxiliary, Coterie Club, St. Mark's Quilters, and was an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church of Holy Family Parish, Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James; and a sister, Evelyn Martin.

Survivors include two sons, Steve and Tim Vinduska, both of El Dorado; two daughters, Sandy Carlson of Burdick and Jody Roberts of Topeka; two brothers, James Weishaar of Abilene and Marvin Weishaar of Liberty, Mo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Marion.

Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Marion, with Father Paul Oborny officiating.

Casket bearers were Glenn Carlson, Michael Stika, Dennis Weishaar, Ken Martin, Eugene Wetter, and Marc Weishaar.

Burial was in Pilsen Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with St. Luke Hospital or American Cancer Society.
