Mayor proclaims June Business Appreciation Month

Staff writer

Mayor Eloise D. Mueller proclaimed June as Business Appreciation Month in Marion during Monday afternoon's City Commission meeting.

The proclamation takes note of the fact that the city, its Economic Development Advisory Board, and citizens all recognize the importance of local commerce, recognize and appreciate the investment made by all businesses and business owners in Marion, and encourages business owners and entrepreneurs "to continue to build their future in Marion."

Susan Cooper, director of economic development for the city, said many volunteers and community service workers will be helping this weekend to make the seventh annual Chingawassa Days a success.

City Administrator David Mayfield said he recently attended the Kansas Peace Officers Convention and garnered some valuable information on electronic submission of accident reports.

On June 12, Mayfield will be in Topeka serving as a committee member for the federal Edward D. Burn Grant Program, administered by the state.

The program makes grants to law enforcement agencies, schools, departments of corrections, and judicial systems, he said.

Marty Fredrickson, street superintendent, said his crews recently had taken a total of 127.2 tons of solid waste to the transfer station during May.

The city made a slight amendment to its recently passed, revised dog ordinance. Monday's revision, published in this edition of the Marion County Record, fixes the city's typographical error in paragraph 9, section 7 of the new ordinance
