Meet a challenge for Centre athletes

Centre High School track squad competed with nine higher-class schools April 30 at the Inman Invitational.
Nevertheless, the boys' team earned fifth place with top-six finishes in several events by seniors Alfonse Klenda, Kevin Mueller, and Seth Jirak, for a total of 36 points.
Sterling dominated the meet, earning 151 points for first place. Bennington finished second, 89 points, Claflin third, 67, and Sedgwick fourth, 63.
Jirak topped shot put competition with a throw of 45 feet, 11.25 inches, and finished second in discus with a throw of 132-11.
Klenda placed second in shot put at 42-10.75 and fourth in discus, 124-07.5. He placed fourth in javelin with a throw of 163-5.
Mueller placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 21.4 seconds.
Brittany Owens contributed the most points in girls' competition. She placed second in javelin with a throw of 101-9. The girls' team finished in 10th place with 12 points.
