Fred Darling, a community economic development specialist with the Extension Service at Kansas State University, will be the speaker at a special meeting sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce. Darling is an expert on community revitalization. He urges all who are interested in the future of Marion to attend the meeting.
Jennifer Savage has been awarded a $1,000 Shelter Insurance Foundation scholarship. A 1998 graduate of Marion High School, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Savage of Florence.
Marion's Main Street through the business district will receive a new surface of blacktop this summer. City Administrator Diane Hett reported to the city commission, in session Monday, that the KLINK project is on schedule. It will be funded mainly by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The Marion/Florence Children's Theatre group will be performing "Tied to the Tracks" Friday and Saturday nights at Marion Municipal Auditorium. Youth participating include Evan Sharp, Eric Voelker, Braxton Skiles, Andy Holt, Aleshia Pippen, Chelsea Zeiner, Andrew Brookens, Megan Helmstead, Chelsea Arnhold, Joe LaBelle, Tim Schuler, Briana Vogel, Jandee Sharp, Sidney Carrithers, Taylor Carrithers, Laura Holt, Jaimee Miller, Hannah Drow, Kara Drews, Joel Zeiner, Zach Helmstead, Paul Hodson, Michael Brookens, Kari Tajchman, Katie Whitaker, Megan Whitaker, Amy Tajchman, and Courtney Geis.
The ninth annual Sherman Pierce reunion was held at the Marion County Lake and Eastmoor United Methodist Church over the past weekend. Forty descendants of the nine children of Sherman and Sarah (Boughan) Pierce gathered for the weekend of activities.
Chingawassa Days will return in 1999. Steering committee members voted Thursday to have the event June 4 to 6, 1999.
