Clock expert David Seay and his crew were hard at work this past week on the Marion County Courthouse clock tower. Funds for the repair and restoration of the clock are provided by the Kansas Heritage Trust Fund of the Kansas State Historical Society and by Marion County. The faces on the 200-pound, seven foot tall, cast-iron clock will be sandblasted and painted. Some parts may be replaced if they are in poor condition.
Ronald "Rusty" Rust, 62, owner of Rusty's Outdoor Sports stores in Wichita and other locations in Kansas, died Friday afternoon while swimming at Marion County Lake. He was highly regarded in Marion, having been a lake community resident for more than 30 years.

Army engineers started releasing water from the center tainter gate Monday morning at Marion Reservoir. They are lowering the water level by 2.5 feet so work can be done on the face of the dam. The gate will be open six inches for a period of 12 days.
Marion's "Blue Devils," a basketball team comprised of eighth graders and coached by Tod Gordon, has completed the summer schedule of games by competing in tournaments at Newton, Salina, Hutchinson, and Emporia. Team members are James Davis, Brennan Commerford, Alan Vogel, Jason Matz, Matt Rhodes, Joey Buchholz, Michael Darrow, Brian Bina, Joel Versch, Evan Sharp, and Eric Smith.
