Nearly 300 bidders from five states braved rain and mud Friday for the first Brangus Production Sale at the Donahue Hayhook Ranch east of Lincolnville. The ranch, which specializes in developing Brangus breed cattle, auctioned off 183 head of livestock during the day long event. Proceeds from the sale totaled $249, 550 for an average price of $1,365 per animal.

Peggy Blackman was re-elected Tuesday to a third three-year term as mayor of Marion.

Shirley Jo Hett and Kathy Sprowls donned their Easter bunny suits Saturday as part of a massive prize giveaway for youngster. The two bunnies roamed Marion's Main Street Saturday morning and gave away more than 200 plastic eggs, good for free prizes at local businesses. The event was sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce.

Bill Hanzlick, Kansas Fish and Game Commission director, has applauded Marion County Associate District Judge Melvin Gradert for ordering nine convicted fish poachers to pay $3,263 for nearly 1,500 pounds of fish illegally taken from Marion Lake. The money will be reinvested into fishing programs by the Fish and Game Commission.

Services for Clive "Butch" Jarvis, who died Monday, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Marion Christian Church. Former grocery and meat market operator, for years he operated a custom meat butchering business in the community.

Friends of Barbara Costello honored her with a "bed and bath" shower Sunday afternoon at the Leo Blackman home. Hostesses were Peggy Blackman, Sherry Classen, Polly Ferrell, Molly Smith, Kay Tajchman, Tammy Weber, and Carolyn Woerz. Barbara is the bride-elect of John Loehr, Topeka.
