MEMORIES: 25 years ago

The city reports that nearly all easements have been arranged for the construction of the water pipeline from Marion Lake to the City of Marion water plant. Bids for the pipeline will be taken under advisement on June 6.

Shad Winter took first place in the Cub Scout Paddleboat Championship held Monday night at the Marion American Legion building. Winter took first place in the competition by edging out Jason May's vessel in the final two feet.

This week's birth announcements, all boys, included the following: Justin Mark born May 3 to Mark and Roberta Stuchlik of Derby; Andrew James born May 17 to Jim and Joni Crofoot of Marion; Eric Matthew born May 21 to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schubert of Westminster, Colo.; and Michael Lloyd, born May 23 to Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Hedstrom of Lincolnville.

At commencement exercises Sunday, Kathy Hayes was named 1983 valedictorian for pre-eminence in scholarship. Cindy Heerey was honored as class salutatorian. Hayes, Heerey and six other Marion High School seniors received academic honors. The others are Marty Kroupa, Doug Kjellin, Linda Robinson, Lisa Richmond, Patty Medina, and Stephanie Loney.

Nine persons won prizes Friday as part of an open house contest sponsored by Main Street Auto. They are: Leon Suderman, Kevin Burkholder, Tom McLinden, Benny Key, Howard Whisenhunt, Theo Bond, Leonard Frantz, John Summerville, Mark Hall, Ruby Yauk and Ben J. Srajer.

Two girls from Eastmoor United Methodist Church will be among the delegates from the Salina District of the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church on a tour of eastern states and cities. Selected were Nancy Kline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kline, and Melanie Conyers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Conyers.
