Sheriff's officers and insurance adjusters are calling the high winds, that ripped through the area Friday morning, a tornado. It caused more than $50,000-worth of damage along a path stretching from south Marion to Marion County Lake. Most of the destruction was concentrated on South Lincoln and South Cedar streets.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Klenda of Marion were among those recognized recently as benefactors of the 4-H program at Rock Springs Ranch. They are among those who have contributed to the program for 10 years or more. Their names have been added to the ranch honor roll of contributors.

Residents at Marion County Lake have had their eyes trained on what might look like a golden wiffle ball resting on a hillside east of the lake. In reality, the structure is a geodesic dome house currently under construction by Bill Stoltenberg of Newton. Stoltenberg says he hopes to have the home completed by the end of summer. Until then, he said, he and his family are forced to live in his "square box" house in Newton.

A 10-member relay team comprised of Olympic hopefuls will be making its way through Marion June 17 on a cross-county run from New York City to Colorado Springs. The run is aimed at generating public support for the 1984 Olympic team and for highlighting the inclusion of women's distance running events in the game for the first time.

Delia Bishop and Walter Rogers, strolling along hand-in-hand, are a familiar sight on the streets of Marion. But Wednesday night they were news all across Kansas. The couple, residents of Marion Manor, were the subject of Jim Anderson's Kansas report on the KTVH 6 p.m. news which is seen by a statewide audience. Photojournalist Anderson said the couple came to his attention when he was in Marion to do a piece on Mayor Peggy Blackman.

Mr. and Mrs. George Endres of rural Marion wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lori, to Duane Kirkpatrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kirkpatrick of rural Florence. An October wedding is being planned.
