Steve Hett, of Hett Construction in Marion, took his work to new heights Thursday morning when he repaired the steeple of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Hett replaced several clay tiles on the spire and sealed flashing along the edges, 125 feet off the ground.
Members of the Minute Maid Women's Marathon Relay Team paused for a break in downtown Marion at noon Friday along their cross-country run from New York to Colorado Springs. The group, comprised of several Olympic hopefuls, is using the trip for training and to commemorate the inclusion of women's distance running events in the Olympic games for the first time.

Jennifer Hanschu of Ramona competed in the AAU Junior Olympics state track meet on Saturday, She finished fourth in the 100-meter dash. Fifth in the 200-meter dash, and fourth in the 400-meter dash. The top four finishers in each event advance to Missouri Valley competition, so she will compete in the 110- and 400-meter dashes next Saturday at Lawrence.
