MEMORIES: 35 years ago
John Hudson, former Marion coach, now at McPherson, recently said two men were not enough to win a state team championship in track. But, Jack Loomis and Don Bredemeier did it this weekend. Loomis won in the 100-, 220- and 440-yard dashes at the state track meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita Saturday, Bredemeier placed first in the javelin and second in the discus the day before. And Marion easily won the state track title for the second consecutive year.
Cathy Costello was honored with a china shower at the Harold Hauser home May 19. Hostesses were Mrs. Dean Batt, Mrs. Alex Case Jr., Mrs. Rosse Case, Mrs. Ed Colburn, Mrs. Ray Longhofer and Mrs. Hauser.
Janice Jantz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jantz, graduated May 21 from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. She will work in the clinical laboratories at St. Luke Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., beginning June 4.
Melissa Hett has been named head cheerleader at Marion High School for the 1973-74 school year. Other varsity cheerleaders are Sharon Anderson, Denice Helmer, Pat Kjellin and Mariann Elling. Junior varsity cheerleaders are Teresa Costello, Lisa Brose, Kathy Edmunds and Terri Friesen.
James A. Wheeler, M.D., well known Marion pediatrician, died at his home here Saturday noon. Active and interested in all aspects of the community, his death came as a sudden shock to a wide circle of friends.
Sunday School Class 10 of Aulne United Methodist Church celebrated its 50th anniversary May 6 with a homecoming dinner and service at the church. Charter members attending the anniversary celebration were Mrs. Harry Barnes, Mrs. Orlie Harrison, Isaac Kline and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kline.
