A gala party in the city hall Thursday bid farewell to Earl Morse, who retired from his job at the municipal power plant after 29 years.
Scott Allan Conyers, 16, died Monday afternoon from injuries he received Sunday when the 1972 Honda motorcycle he was riding collided with a 1970 Oldsmobile driven by Mrs. Wilbur Razor. The accident occurred at the intersection of Cedar and Hudson streets in Marion. Conyers was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Conyers, Marion.
Joel Hanneman, who lives south of Hillsboro, is this week's winner in the Vagabond Weekend contest. He received his award from Lynn Christensen of Lynn's Truck & Tractor.
Births at St. Luke Hospital this week include Ann Francis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McLinden of Marion, born June 26 and Sheldon Vincent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bina of Marion, born June 28.
There's a new interest in Marion — plays in Central Park. Such fun and delight as Friday and Saturday night audiences experienced long will be remembered. When Aug. 17 and 18 arrive, there will be more folks on hand for pleasant evenings. The skills of Jim and JoEllen McPheeters showed off brilliantly in both plays presented by the Mud Creek Company, a division of the Community Arts Council of PRIDE.
The annual Hereford Holiday tour will visit two ranches in Marion County, beginning July 16, with the tour starting at Diamond-X Ranch three miles west of Marion on U.S.-56. Also visited in Marion County will be Goertz Herefords, three miles north of Marion and Picard Herefords, nine miles east of the junction with U.S.-56 on K-150, just inside Chase County.
