Memories of Bob Hope

I can't let my thoughts on Bob Hope get lost. What a wonderful guy! His performances were so entertaining and always pretty clean. His devotion to his wife is refreshing compared to so many failed marriages in Hollywood. He will especially be remembered for his patriotic treks to entertain our troops. I think my son Bud got to hear him when he was serving in Korea. Bob was just one year older than me, so we both have been through a century of marvelous changes, some good, some bad. We both experienced Will Rogers, who was a great entertainer, and before him, Mark Twain. Today's comedians should be able to see the pattern if they want to be successful and remembered.

I went to see "Seabiscuit" on the big screen. What a great movie. I think the main actors were so good they surely will be nominated for an Oscar. Maybe the horses should be nominated, too! I'm glad I read the book, as the movie followed the story very well.

A letter from Nadine Hoch tells me that her daughter Beverly is withstanding her cancer treatment like a real trooper. She has a wonderful attitude, so I'm sure she will survive this ordeal with flying colors.

I'm in the sun room (Friday p.m.) with windows all around and a flash of lightning and a big clap of thunder made me jump a mile. I do hope there is rain in "them there clouds."

I'm reading "Bel Canto," a novel by Ann Patchett. It is a story of a bunch of foreigners held hostage in a South American country. Among them is a famous woman opera singer. It is a fun read.
