Students at Marion Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday this past week.

To incorporate how important the popular children's author was, guest readers went to each class each day to read a book by Dr. Seuss.

Readers included Melissa Parmley, Kim Harms, Lee Becker, Heather Vinduska, Michele Hett, Cathy Whitaker, Dawn Hett, Stacey Pedersen, Kathy Meierhoff, Patty Putter, Kimbra Kroupa, Dan Baldwin, Sarah Cope, Lori McLinden, Sherri Hess, Greta Smith, and Julie Nelson.

Students also were encouraged to dress up each day to help celebrate Seuss' birthday. Days included "kid in a hat day," where students were encouraged to wear hats; "great day for up," prompting students to dress up; "Grinch green day," for students to wear green; "fox in socks day," giving students an opportunity to wear crazy socks; and "one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish day," for students to wear red and blue.

Throughout the week, Darla Spencer randomly searched for students who were reading when they normally wouldn't be. These students received a ticket which they could exchange for a free book.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) also was incorporated and every student received a free book from the library.
