MES students write about Thanksgiving

Marion Elementary School second graders recently have been working on their writing skills and have been asked to become reporters for the Marion County Record this week.

This is a sample of their contributions:

Mrs. Hall's students became the staff cooking reporters. They share their recipes for baking a turkey:

First I would ask my dad if I could use his shot gun. Then I would shoot the turkey. Then when I got home I would pick all the feathers off the turkey. Then I would cut all the meat into a plastic bag. Then I put it in the freezer for two days. Then I put it on the grill for one hour then spread barbecue sauce over the turkey. Then eat it.

Grif Case

First shoot the turkey. Then pluck the turkey. And cook the turkey 100 degrees F for one hour. Add sugar and spices and set the table.

Jared Hague

I would go to the store and buy a frozen turkey. Next I would let the turkey thaw out on the counter and then I would set the oven for two hours and 60 minutes. Then I would put seasonings on it and put it in the oven and then while the turkey is in I would cook the other foods like peas, corn, rice, broccoli, cauliflower, soup, carrots, hot carrots, cold carrots, cold broccoli, cold cauliflower, hot cauliflower, hot broccoli. And finally I would set the table and put on the plates, forks, spoons, and knives. Then I would put the food on the table. Happy Thanksgiving!

Mrs. Britt's students were asked to pretend they were turkeys on a turkey farm. They had to write a persuasive paragraph explaining why they should or should not be chosen as the Thanksgiving Day turkey.

My name is Seth the turkey. I have always wanted to be a Thanksgiving turkey. Please, please, please, please pick me. I'm so juicy. I'm so fat.

Seth Crawford

I'm the biggest, fattest, turkey you've ever seen! I have got lots of meat! Can you please pick me? Please?

Devan Carr

Pick me! I am so juicy! I am so, so, so plump! I am healthy and I don't eat junk food like chips. I eat apples, grass, oranges, bananas, strawberries, grapes, and carrots. I smell like steaming hot yummy good food. I am the fattest and I am so, so, so, so good. I am the biggest, fattest turkey. I am so, so, so good. And I mean it too! Choose me for Thanksgiving dinner!

Mrs. Stewart's second graders share their Thanksgiving traditions:

I go to both of my grandma's houses. We eat turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, pumpkin and cherry pie, and ice cream. The men watch TV and the girls help in the kitchen. The boys are lazy. The girls are helpful. All of my cousins and my aunts and uncles come over. We play games. We play Monopoly and Battleship. We watch movies. We watch Spy Kids and the Loony Tunes. We do crafts and we paint.

Cheyenne Jeffrey

Me and my family are going to Grandma's house to eat. When we get there we will say prayers. Then we will eat. We are going to eat salad and turkey and pie and juice. After we eat we will play turkey games. They are really fun. Then we will go home and sleep.

Timothy

On Thanksgiving most of my family comes over so we can be together and have a Thanksgiving tradition. My mom and dad buy the turkey and stuffing. Then she bakes the turkey and stuffing in the oven at once. Then she bakes the apple pie and cherry pie.
