Meyer named director of academic operations, technology
Dean Ron Yates of the College of Communications, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, this week announced that Associate Professor Eric Meyer will serve as the director of Academic Operations and Technology.
This is an advancement and new position that is being created in response to a task force report which called for a more centralized system of critical college functions.
Specifically, Prof. Meyer, as director of Academic Operations and Technology will address a wide spectrum of initiatives designed to bring the units of the college closer together and to modernize its information management practices. The Director of Academic Operations and Technology will report directly to the dean and will serve as his personal representative in matters of information and technology management.
As such, he will be a member of the College Executive Committee, along with College Department Heads and Associate Deans.
Professor Meyer joined the Illinois journalism faculty in 1996, and serves as the college's representative to the provost's General Education Board, Educational Technology Board, and Information Technology Advisory Board. He also chairs the college's Student Information System Working Group and has chaired its Technology Committee as well as journalism's Curriculum Review Committee and the Task Force Administrative Technology Subcommittee.
He currently oversees several departmental and college publications and web sites and had extensive experience as an administrative and technological troubleshooter in his nearly 20 years as an editor at the Milwaukee Journal.
Meyer also is owner of Newslink Associates on the Internet and a major stockholder of Hoch Publishing Co., Inc. He is the son of Bill and Joan Meyer of Marion, a graduate of Marion High School, the University of Kansas, and Marquette University.
