MHS athletes earn all-league honors
Three sophomores from the Marion High School girls' basketball team, and one senior from the boys' squad, were honored by the coaches of the Mid-Central Activities Association for their outstanding play during the 2007-08 season.
Julia Zeiner was the school's lone first-team representative after helping the team to a 12-11 record and a sub-state runner-up finish.
She was honored after leading the Warrior girls in scoring at 14.9 points per game. She also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 assists.
Calvin Jeffrey, a point guard on the boys' team, earned second-team honors.
Jeffrey led the team in scoring with 16.2 points per game, and was third in the MCAA.
He also was the team leader in assists with 3.9 per game, tied for first in three-pointers made with 26, and was the team leader in steals with 1.95 per game.
He chipped in an average of 4.48 rebounds per game for the 6-15 Warriors.
Zeiner's classmates Kayley Heerey and Lindsay Hett notched honorable mention honors.
Heerey was second on the team in scoring with an average of 13.3 per game, and led all rebounders with an average of 5.7.
She was tied with Hett for the team lead in steals with 60, or 2.7 per game.
Hett also averaged double-figure points, checking in with 10.9 per game.
She averaged 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists to go along with her steals.
Players were selected by the 12 coaches in the MCAA, and the first and second teams included seven members.
