MHS class of 1946 celebrates reunion years ago

Marion High School class of 1946 met the weekend of Old Settlers' Day to celebrate their 60th class reunion.

Sixteen classmates met Sept. 30 for breakfast at the Stone City Café. After breakfast, they boarded a trolley for the parade.

They enjoyed lunch in Central Park and participated in the afternoon program and introduction of classes.

In the afternoon, they met at the Hannaford cabin at Marion County Lake. Some participated in the historical tour of the grounds and lake.

They enjoyed dinner and a meeting at Stone City Café. The group agreed to donate the balance of their treasury, $121.81, to Marion City Library.

Eleven members did not attend and 12 classmates are deceased.

Out-of-state classmates who attended were Norma (Amick) VanZee of Huntsville, Ala., Harold Ehrlich of Ocala, Fla., Margie (Frazier) Davis of Springfield, Mo., Wallace Good of San Diego, Calif., Wanda (Hannaford) Burk of Colorado Springs, Colo., Virginia (Hungerford) Schmidt of Palmdale, Calif., Mary (Tibbets) Glidden of Bella Vista, Ark., Betty (Tiemeier) Dunn of Las Cruces, N.M., and Suzanne (Wheeler) Watt of Naperville, Ill.

Those from Kansas included Jeanne (Carpenter) Morris of Topeka, and Howard Collett, Harold Conyers, Virginia (Hayen) Downing, Betty (Weber) May, and Jack and LaVerna Beaston, all of Marion.
