MHS class of 1955 observes golden anniversary years ago

Marion High School class of 1955 held its 50th year reunion Old Settlers' Day weekend. They met Friday evening at the Marion County Lake cabin of Ron and Anita Post to get re-acquainted and take photos.

The group met for coffee Saturday morning at Stone City Café. They rode in the parade and were recognized as a class at the gazebo in Central Park later that afternoon. Laurence Griggs introduced Pauline Edmunds, who had the class as her first teaching assignment.

The evening was spent at Marion Country Club, which was decorated with the '50s style. Ann Slocombe was in charge of decorations.

Pauline Edmunds gave the table grace. Carolyn White awarded the sports trophy from high school activities. Elsie Burkholder awarded door prizes.

Leon Lais, the class president, remembered those classmates who have died: Joy (Burnett) Hamm, R.J. Bateman, Bob Bratton, Dale Hamm, and Jack Richmond.

Janet Bryant was emcee for the evening. She read the history and class will from the yearbook. Letters were read from Patsy (Harris) Sanders, John Tuell, Verlin Meier, and Judy (Thatch) Shields.

Edmunds reminisced about her special group of kids, as a 20-year-old teacher with 33 students. She gave everyone a medal on a ribbon that proclaimed them #1.

LaVern Hoffman led the group in singing the alma mater and group photographs were taken.
