MHS debate squad attends workshops

Marion High School debate students hosted Tam Osgood of Kansas City in July and attended her advanced workshop at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita.

The squad traveled to Salina South High School to hear Dr. English, who represented Baylor University, Texas. They attended another workshop at Emporia State University.

Debaters have been studying the topic and resolution: "Resolved: That the United States federal government should establish an ocean policy substantially increasing protection of marine natural resources."

Debaters this year are Sarah and Rachael Davidson, Adam and Isaac Guetersloh, Paul Hodson, and Lee Ownbey. Elisa Gayle, Andy Holt, Katie Baird, Sonja Steinborn, and Jacob Taylor are timekeepers and help with research. Ms. Glover, a student teacher from Emporia State University, also is helping. Mary Griffith is the debate coach.

Upcoming tournaments will be held at Salina Central, Remington, Augusta, Bishop Carroll, Kapaun Mount Carmel, Winfield, and Hutchinson.

"We have two advanced students who are working with our novices. We anticipate an exciting and educational year," said Griffith.

The squad will be debating Saturday at Bishop Carroll.
