MHS debaters compete
The Marion High School debate team recently competed in tournaments in Little River, Lyons, and Remington, according to coach Mary Griffith.
On Oct. 19, students Sarah Davidson and Eric Steiner competed in an advanced tournament in Lyons. There, the two won contests over Garden City and Sterling. Davidson was ranked as the number one speaker in all rounds. Steiner was ranked as the number two speaker in one round.
In a novice tournament Oct. 19 in Little River, the team of Amanda Steiner and Adam Guetersloh defeated both McPherson and Buhler. Amanda Steiner was the number one speaker in two rounds, and Guetersloh was ranked number two speaker in two rounds.
During a tournament in Remington Saturday, Guetersloh and Eric Steiner were ranked as number two speakers in one round each.
This year's debate topic is "Resolved: That the United States Federal Government should substantially increase public health services for mental health care in the United States."
The Marion squad will see action this week during a dual with Hillsboro. Students set to attend the Hillsboro dual are Davidson, Guetersloh, Kathrin Lange, Amanda Steiner, Eric Steiner, Jacob Taylor, and Andrew Holt.
