MHS FCCLA members attend leadership showcase
Youth from the Marion High School chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) participated April 5-6 in the state STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) events and state leadership showcase at Wichita.
LeNae Nelson, Wendy Hager, Becky Hager, Alycia Pontious, and Jessica Bernhardt were accompanied by FCCLA chapter adviser Myrta Billings.
Students participated as doorkeepers, timers, and runners and took part in workshops and sessions that allowed them to accept the challenges of being members today and leaders tomorrow.
The "Accept the Challenge" theme was reinforced by connecting members and chapters for recognition to connecting to families, careers, and communities during the past year.
Marion High School received recognition for collecting 123 books for a local preschool in the "Bring-A-Book" State Community Service Book Drive.
Jessica Bernhardt was installed as the newly-elected secretary for District G.
Members had the opportunity to hear keynote speaker Barrett Keene, who spoke about love, character, and passion for life.
Students also participated in track sessions including financial fitness, leadership, career decisions, and Stop the Violence.
Approximately 1,500 members, advisers, and guests from across the state attended the two-day event.
