MHS forensics squad takes first at first tourney

Marion High School forensics team members began their season Saturday with a first place finish at Northern Heights.

"We entered 20 and 15 came home with medals," said forensics coach Janet Killough.

Marion took first place honors out of 10 schools. Thirty-two students are on this year's forensics squad.

Several students qualified for state champs in their first outing. They were Tim Schuler and Joe Svitak in duet acting; Sarah Davidson, informative speech; Megan Whitaker, informative; Ive Eddy, poetry; Stacey Bowman, poetry; Tim Schuler, solo serious; Patrick Becker, solo serious.

"We have an excellent team with some very talented kids," Killough said.

Forensics students are limited to competition in eight tournaments each year, not including state.
