Amy Goering, a talented 2004 Marion High School graduate, is studying commercial art at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fla.

She has a job near home for the summer but is hoping to keep up her painting skills by doing portraits of people.

"I've always enjoyed drawing," she said. "Sometimes my classmates asked me to draw for them."

She said she really started getting serious about it in high school under the strong teaching of Jim Versch.

"I put my heart and soul into it and really started working hard," she said.

In three years of college, she has received training in graphic design, portraiture, and illustration.

With one year to go, she is looking for more experience to assist her in getting a job when she graduates.

She did a few portraits over Christmas and is hoping to do more.

She usually works from photographs, sometimes using more than one to create one portrait.

"A portrait should capture something a photo can't," she said. "It should be a step above."

She hasn't had much experience with actual sittings but would be willing to do that, too.

Most of her portraits are done as oil paintings but she also can do water color or pencil drawings.

Portraits involving landscape scenes also are possible.

"Doing people is my favorite," she said.

Amy had two years of photography in high school and a class in college and is available to do photographs, as well.

She will be available evenings and weekends until the end of August and plans to work out of the home of her parents, Charles and Annora Goering. She may be contacted at 620-382-2075 or by e-mail at amygoering@hotmail.com.
