MHS plans Winter Sports Extravaganza

Marion High School has replaced its annual basketball soap scrimmage with a "Winter Sports Extravaganza."

The event, which includes "Hoops Hysteria" and "Mat Madness," will include scrimmages for both the boys' and girls' basketball teams, as well as demonstrations by the high school wrestlers.

The extravaganza will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the high school gym. It starts with C-team basketball scrimmages and involves not only scrimmages and demonstrations, but also cheerleaders and dance team performances, crowd participation games and surprises, player introductions, and interviews. The demonstrations and performances are interspersed so as to have something for everyone throughout the evening.

Admission is one sports drink per person. The concession stand will be open. The event is scheduled to end by 8 p.m.

Officials are hoping for a good crowd to kick off the winter sports season.
