MHS Singers to perform for music educators
Invitation to perform is 'tremendous honor'
Any group who is going to perform for a group of music educators had better be pretty darn good.
And the Marion High School Singers are pretty darn good.
The group will perform Saturday during the Kansas Music Educators Association 2003 State Convention at Century II in Wichita.
Adam White, MHS vocal music director, said last May he sent an audition tape to a committee of music teachers charged with deciding which groups would perform during the convention.
This summer, White was notified the MHS Singers would be one of only four choirs in the state to perform at the music educators convention.
Members of this year's MHS Singers include Heidi Zogelman, Brandi Peterie-Shipman, Hannah Eis, Justin Brookens, Andrew Gayle, Tyler Miesse, Tyson Heidebrecht, Becky Tharp, Megan Helmstead, Molly Rhodes, Erin Fruechting, Rebecca Savage, Clayton Chamberland, Joe Svitak, Tyler Smith, and Matt Rhodes.
"Typically, this committee receives anywhere from 30 to 40 entries," White said. "So to be selected is a tremendous honor for our students."
The students' day will start early Saturday with a 7 a.m. rehearsal in the Century II, Little Theatre, before they dress and prepare for their concert.
The singers, along with White and accompanist Anita Brookens, will perform at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Their performance will be held in the Mary Jane Teall Little Theatre in Century II.
The performance is open to family and friends of the performers.
That afternoon, two MHS students Tyler Miesse and Justin Brookens will perform in the State Ensemble Concert. They were selected earlier this year to perform in that concert.
