"I was at a basketball game at Sacred Heart and they had one and we didn't and I decided right then and there that I was going to be it," said James Davis, senior.

What is he talking about, you ask? He is referring to the Marion High School's mascot, the Warrior.

"We've had one before, and it brought a lot of pep to the field, and as far as I can see, it's been a good deal," said Grant Thierolf, MHS football coach. "I just think the enthusiasm the person brings to the game can be contagious," he added.

Davis provided the necessary materials needed to create the warrior costume, with a little help from his mother, Jan Davis. He said his outfit includes a headdress, cut-off slacks, a feather wrapped around his arm, moccasins, and "lots of paint!"

Davis said he received "lots of positive feedback," at a recent volleyball tournament.

He plans to appear at home games only, but may make an occasional exception for an away game.

One new addition fans can look forward to will be a bullhorn Davis hopes to obtain for future games.

When asked what fans can do to help cheer him on, Davis responded, "Pay attention to the game. More importantly, be enthusiastic about the game."
