MHS students honored at annual banquet

Sixty-seven Marion High School students were honored Monday night at the annual Kiwanis Honor Banquet held in the MMS/MHS commons.

Kiwanis president Mickey Lundy opened the meeting, greeting students and guests. Keith Collett led in singing the first verse of "America," followed by the flag salute and invocation.

Following the meal, MHS forensics students Justin Brookens, Nikki Moody, and Joe Svitak entertained the audience with prose and poetry selections. The three students will advance Saturday to state champs competition.

Marion High School principal Ken Arnhold, Kiwanis president Mickey Lundy, and vice president Tom Kimbrel presented certificates to the following honor students:

Seniors — Jacob Adkins, Kayla Barrett, Jamie Bernhardt, Brian Bina, Carla Carlson, Ive Eddy, Mitchell Enos, Megan Helmstead, Shawna Hett, Megan Moore, Megan O'Dell, Johanna Pape, Mohammad Rezaie, Matthew Rhodes, Christine Schwarz, Amanda Steiner, Joel Versch, Alan Vogel, Heidi Zogelman, and Krista Zogelman.

Juniors — Justin Brookens, Clayton Chamberland, Karson Craig, Sarah Davidson, Jessica DeForest, Hannah Eis, Andrew Gayle, Kathleen Kraus, Mindy Maag, Nikki Moody, Caitlin O'Dell, Emma Parli, Brandi Peterie-Shipman, Rebecca Savage, Timothy Schuler, Tyler Stubenhofer, Amy Tajchman, and Megan Whitaker.

Sophomores — Chelsea Arnhold, Chelsi Carlson, Nick Carlson, Kendra Holub, Daniel Kraus, Stephanie Jacobson, Mindy Mastin, Molly Rhodes, Amber Richmond, Eric Steiner, Alissa Vogel, Briana Vogel, Whitney Wear, Sarah Williams, and Katie Zogelman.

Freshmen — Michael Brookens, Adrienne Chamberland, Rachel Davidson, David DeForest, Clinton Jeffrey, Allison Maddox, Casey Nelson, Alysha O'Dell, Jenna Parli, Russell Ploutz, Jeffrey Richmond, Misti Richmond, Emalee Versch, and Katelyn Whitaker.

"These students represent about one-third of the student body at Marion High School," Ken Arnhold told the audience.

The meal was prepared by Marion-Florence USD 408 food service staff and served by the MHS FCCLA club.
