"Trick or treat!" you said on your neighbor's doorstep.
"Happy Halloween," they replied as you grabbed a handful of goodies from their candy bowl.
Is Halloween still alive at Marion High School? Of course!
"Our generation has more inner-child than past generations. And we're more open to show it," said junior Joe Svitak.
Future Educators of America (FEA) sponsored a costume contest. Stacy Bowman and Megan O'Dell were most traditional. Funniest costumes were worn by Jarvis Whiteman and Emmy Bowers. The scariest costumes were designed by Dale Coe, Breona Smith, and Ashley Pickering. Tim Schuler, Patrick Becker, Trevor Jones, Clifton Richmond, and Misty Richmond were most creative. Carol Burton, Joel Versch, and Racheal Vogel received honorable mentions.
The temperatures dipped into the 30s on Halloween yet Marion Warrior fans came to support the football team.
Perhaps the highlight of the evening and even the football season was the halftime show. The band, dance team, and flag squad dressed in costumes. The band played five pieces, "Phantom of the Opera," "Black Magic Woman," "Monster Mash," "Witchcraft," and an excerpt from "Phantom of the Opera."
The flag squad performed during each song except "Witchcraft," which featured the dance team.
Following the game, student council organized a dance at Marion City Building which lasted until 12:30 a.m.
"I had a lot of fun. The decorations were very cool," said junior Emma Parli. "I thought the turnout could have been a little better, but I can understand since it was Halloween."
Apparently some individuals were up to deviltry as evidenced by the smashed pumpkins and traditional outhouse-on-Main-Street display. On the whole, however, Halloween was harmlessly enjoyed by the students at MHS.
