VFW Voice of Democracy awards were presented to Rachel Davidson, $100; Misti Richmond, $75; and Michael Brookens, $50.

Debate

Those receiving academic awards for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 to 3.24 included Kevin Billbe, Jake Bredemeier, Jake Cochran, Kara Druse, Isaac Guetersloh, Zach Helmstead, Elisha Hokanson, Jon Nesser, Lee Ownbey, and Clay Riggs.

Ownbey received an award for the most speaker points, followed by Guetersloh, Nesser, and Riggs.

FFA

Retiring FFA officer plaques were presented to president Adam Depler, vice president Shawn Britton, and treasurer Clayton Garnica.

State proficiency award winners were Braden Suffield in emerging ag technology and Adam Depler for forest management and products.

Adam Depler was a state star in agribusiness finalist.

Forensics

Outstanding forensics students were Rose Taylor, Rachel Davidson, and Michael Brookens.

Outstanding actor and actress were Michael Brookens and Rachel Davidson.

Outstanding stage manager was Adrienne Chamberland.

FCCLA

Jessica Bernhardt received a Kansas FCCLA Scholarship.

Officer pins were presented to Jessica Bernhardt, president and three-year pin; Jayde Hess, vice president; Valeree Hett, secretary; Kalaya Jackson, treasurer; and Kimber Hardey, public relations.

STAR event participant award — D.J. Gore, silver medal, creed competition.

Top point awards — Megan Schmidt, first; Amber Ratzloff, second; Audra Allen, third; Kimber Hardey, fourth; Valeree Hett, fifth; and Amara Prescott, sixth.

National Honor Society

Those seniors receiving NHS honor cords were Michael Brookens, Rachel Davidson, Alysha O'Dell, Jeffrey Richmond, Misti Richmond, Katelyn Whitaker, Adrienne Chamberland, Allison Maddox, Casey Nelson, and Russell Ploutz.

Scholars' bowl

MHS scholars' bowl teams participated in 11 varsity and four junior varsity and freshman/sophomore competitions during the year.

The varsity team of Michael Brookens, Rachel Davidson, Matt Thierolf, and Isaac Guetersloh took first place with a perfect 8-0 record at the Eureka tournament.

Brookens, Davidson, and Guetersloh were joined by Luke Bowers and Jessica Vogel to take first place with a 7-0 record at Sterling.

Brookens, Davidson, Guetersloh, and Brett Billings captured fourth at the Emporia High School meet and Brookens, Davidson, Bowers, and Kyle Hett placed fourth in the varsity division at Smoky Valley.

In junior varsity and freshman/sophomore meets, the team of Thierolf, Billings, Adam Regnier, Adam Svoboda, and Kerim Geldymuradov took first with a perfect 8-0 record at the Remington JV meet.

Thierolf, Billings, Vogel, and Svoboda took first at Smoky Valley and at the Marion JV meet, Billings, Vogel, Geldymuradov, Regnier, and Svoboda posted a perfect 6-0 record to place first.

Fourth year seniors who lettered were Michael Brookens and Rachel Davidson.

First-year letter winners were juniors Isaac Guetersloh and Lee Ownbey, sophomore Brett Billings, and freshman Matt Thierolf.

Other participants included Adrienne Chamberland, Kerim Geldymuradov, Kyle Hett, Luke Bowers, Jessica Vogel, Adam Regnier, and Adam Svoboda.

Top scorers for the JV and freshman/sophomore competitions were freshman Matt Thierolf with an average of 157 JV points and sophomore Brett Billings with an average of 159 JV points.

Top varsity scorers were Michael Brookens, 1,270 points; and Rachel Davidson, 995 points.
