MHS volleyball strives for strong season

Marion High School volleyball team has potential for a strong season, says second-year coach Ginger Robert.

"We've had a lot of athletic ability, and now we're seeing it carry through to volleyball skills," she said.

The Warriors finished last year with 13 wins and 14 losses. About 30 players are out this year, Robert said.

"That's fueled a lot of natural competition," she said. "That healthy aggressiveness toward earning a varsity jersey has been intense."

Seniors include Gladys Mukwindidza, Megan Moore, Shawna Hett, Heidi Zogelman, Krista Zogelman, and Ashlee Moore.

Juniors are Brandi Peterie, Caitlin O'Dell, Emmy Bowers, Courtney Geis, Sarah Regier, Savannah Killough, and Amy Tajchman.

Sophomores are Amber Richmond, Molly Rhodes, Whitney Wear, Leann Thomas, Mindy Mastin, Alissa Vogel, Katie Zogelman, Jill Hannaford, Chelsi Carlson, Chelsea Arnhold, and Sarah Williams.

Freshmen are Alysha O'Dell, Toni Gordon, Jenna Parli, Kara Holt, Emalee Versch, Allison Maddox, Dawnyele Ross, Ranell Schroeder, and Adrienne Chamberland.

Managers are Becky Tharp and Nicole Nelson.

"We have good senior leadership," Robert said. "They're taking a lot of responsibility to ensure practice goes the way it should."

Robert said team members have a workout ethic which has produced a team with strength and stamina.

"Offense will be our strong point," she said. "We definitely can hit the ball."
