MHS Warriors defeat Wichita Independent
Coming off a frustrating loss against Sacred Heart, the Marion Warriors did an admirable job getting points on the board Feb. 11 defeating Wichita Independent, 56-33, in front of a home crowd.
"We did a nice job of rebounding, especially after playing so poorly against Sacred Heart," said Marion Coach Rex Ostmeyer.
"We jumped up to a 20 to 6 lead, and did a great job on the defensive end," Ostmeyer said. "They (Independent) were the leading scoring team in the league."
The Warriors led by 16 at the halfway mark, and limited Independent's scoring to only 33 points, a far cry from their usual 60 point average.
"We did a nice job of getting some points from some of our guys who haven't scored in the past," the Marion coach commented. "We had some good, all-around team effort."
Three Marion players — Brian Bina, Jason Matz, and Alan Vogel — each dropped in 10 points apiece. Matt Rhodes had seven points, and Eric Smith contributed five.
"It was real balanced scoring," Ostmeyer said. "This win helped us regain some confidence."
