Mini-music festival is June 3 at Knepp-Duerksen farm

Event is added to annual traditions

Every August, Agri-Urban's Day on the Farm attracts hundreds to the WillowSpring Downs farm; and at Christmas, Night in the Barn living nativity brings visitors near and far.

At 5 p.m. June 3, "Song on the Lawn" will make its debut on the farm of Maynard Knepp and Carol Duerksen, located between Goessel and Hillsboro.

Song on the Lawn is a mini-music festival and fund-raiser for Joyful Noise Community Child Care according to Joyful Noise board chair Brandy Ashley.

"There will be a porkburger meal, lots of great music, and of course all of the farm's animals will be hanging around too," Ashley said.

Six groups will be performing a variety of music at the event:

Brothers and Sisters, a family gospel/bluegrass band from Goessel; Lighthouse Quartet, a men's quartet from Hillsboro; Cross Road, a gospel group from Tabor Mennonite; The Master's Trail Hands, a men's quartet from Chisholm Trail Bible Church in Goessel.

Also scheduled to perform are Bill Froese (soloist) and Brian Voth (guitarist); and One Way Up, a contemporary worship band whose members include Jesse Goertzen and Chris Voth of Goessel.

"We'd love to see a lot of people out," Ashley said. "But we need for them to bring their own lawn chairs.

"We'll provide the lawn, music, and food, if people can bring their chairs."

To get to WillowSpring Downs farm: from Goessel: three miles north, four miles east, three-quarter mile north. From Hillsboro: four miles south, three miles west, three-quarter mile north. Signs will be posted.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Goessel Elementary School.
