MMS boys trip against Halstead
Marion Middle School boys' basketball teams were in action Thursday at Halstead, but didn't manage to come home with a victory.
The Wildcats had difficulty getting their offense on track in the A-team contest, trailing 18-7 at the half.
More aggressive play and better perimeter shooting in the second half helped Marion trim the deficit to six at one point, but drew no closer, losing 34-27.
Jordan Versch led Wildcat scorers with 13 points, and Landon Leiker had 7.
The B-team endured its most sluggish start of the season, finding itself on the short end of a 21-7 halftime score.
Improved intensity by the Wildcats in the second half was offset by three-of-15 shooting from the free throw line, as Marion fell 29-19.
David Helmer scored seven points, and Colten Johnson added five for the Wildcats.
Marion's C-team had similar difficulties from the charity stripe in a 28-15 loss, making only one of 13 attempts. The Wildcats were unable to take advantage of their superior height, failing to capitalize on several open drives to the basket.
Derek Stuchlik tallied six points for the Wildcats, while Colin Eurit scored three.
The Wildcats will travel Thursday for a contest against Hesston.
