MMS boys win two
The Marion Middle School boys' basketball team claimed two wins this past week over Hillsboro and Council Grove.
After an even first quarter, Marion outscored Hillsboro, 18-6 in the second quarter to take command of the game and pull out a 17-point win. The team took care of the basketball, limiting their turnovers in the game, and was able to keep Hillsboro from making any kind of run in the game.
The Wildcats dominated the boards throughout the game and played one of the best games of the season.
Austin Hager and Calvin Jeffrey had 13 and 12 points respectively in the win.
Against Council Grove, Marion improved their record to 9-3 overall by disrupting Council Grove's offensive rhythm. Marion crashed the boards hard against the taller team and ran the floor on offense to open a substantial lead by half-time. The balanced scoring attack prevented Council Grove's box-and-one from being effective.
Jeffrey led the Wildcat team with 12, while Hager added nine, and Keith Jones and Bryce Suffield added eight each.
